A
wooded wetland slough paralleled the Town Branch of the West Fork of the White River on the east between
Sixth and 11th streets to the west of South Hill Avenue. Ideally,
it would have been left in its natural state with its hydric soil and typical
wetland vegetation intact to continue to serve as a natural sponge
to absorb and cleanse water overflowing from the Town Branch and running
off the soon-to-be developed site of the now-removed Anderson Trailer
Park. This natural basin retained stormwater runoff to protect
property downstream and provided outstanding habitat for birds and
many species of life. It has now (March 2007) been filled and raised several feet for construction.
