A 19th-century tunnel beneath the north-south railroad east of Paris Avenue and less than 100 yards south of Sixth Street allows the Town Branch to flow south. By the time the stream enters the tunnel it has collected water from most of the south half of the University of Arkansas campus, most of the athletic facilities and buildings from Cleveland and Maple streets and the southeast side of Markham Hill, the campus of Fayetteville High School and the neighborhood west of Hill Avenue north of Sixth Street.
